Training of Latvian DHS operators on managerial issues

The last capacity-building workshops for DHS operators, organised by KeepWarm's Latvian partner Zemgale Regional Energy Agency (ZREA), took place in Jelgava on 26 and 27 March 2019. This fourth in a series of capacity building workshops was focused on managerial issues.

Illustrated by practical examples of district heating companies, it among others covered the following topics:

  • Identifying measures to increase the attractiveness of a company in the eyes of end-users, in close interaction with end-users and national authorities;
  • Communicating with and attracting new customers;
  • Alternative methods for purchasing biomass;
  • Contract provisions needed to ensure a smooth supply of biomass.

The objective of this training was to increase the capacity of DHS operators’ and other district heating system operators’ employees, energy experts and interested stakeholders in the management of their organisations. During the 2-day training, alternating presentations by experts were held combined with a study visit to “Fortum Jelgava” Ltd. biomass cogeneration station, the 24 participants also exchanged experiences on DHS daily management.

The next training in Latvia in the framework of the KeepWarm project will take place on 24-25 April 2019 on financial issues.
